Ahead of the April 25 primary election of the All Progressives Congress, some loyalists of the former Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola have began campaigns for governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
President Bola Tinubu is yet to disclose the candidate of his choice.
Tinubu and Aregbesola are not on good terms with each other.
The unfolding problem between Aregbesola and Tinubu started a few years ago, specifically at the time that Aregbesola began his own transition from office after nearly eight years in office.
The crux of the dispute between the two men could originally be traced to the re-election of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
Now that Aiyedatiwa wants to retain power beyond 2025, Aregbesola sees that as an opportunity to support him with a view to reclaiming political influence in the Southwest.
Already, Aregbesola’s former aides, Dr. Oladipupo Okeyomi and Bola Ilori are working round the clock to ensure that Aiyedatiwa picks the ticket of the APC.
Okeyomi is the convener of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers (LACO-FS), while Ilori was said to have held a series of meetings with APC members, particularly the Aborigines on the need to support Aiyedatiwa.
