A leading governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, Chief Olusola Oke, says he is confident that President Bola Tinubu will not support any other aspirant than him.
Oke, while featuring on the Political Standpoint anchored by the TVC in Abuja on Saturday, said Tinubu would go for the best aspirant that could win the November governorship election for the APC.
He said,” The President is a democrat. I have no doubt in my mind that he will go for the best for the party and for the state.
“I’m not a new man to him. I had known him back in the National Assembly when he was a senator and I was in the House of Representatives.
“I’ve had cause to relate with him on different platforms, and I was active and earned him many respects. So I’m very very confident that him being ready to go for the best, that he will go for me.
“I’m confident that I have the support of the president not in terms of emotion or sentiment but in term of being the best in the circumstance of this aspiration.”
When asked what he intends to do if elected as governor, Oke said his administration would focus on education, agriculture and infrastructure.
“No doubt, our late governor did his best before he passed away. He came at a time when the country was facing COVID-19 challenges. Since 1976 when the state was created, no concerted efforts have been made by any administration to open up where our resources reside.
“During Chief late Obafemi Awolowo, the entire south-west was known for Agriculture. We need to open up our forest resources, coastal and mineral resources.
“Before now, in the days of late Adekunle Ajasin, Ondo State had reputable companies. Ifon Ceramic in Ifon, Oluwa Glass in Igbokoda, Premier Metal in Ondo, Oil Mill in Okitipupa etc.
“All these companies had gone under. Today, only government remains the producer of wealth and the employer of labour.
“The standard of living of the people has gone down. If I’m elected, I will open roads into the farmlands, build barracks for Amotekun in the farmlands that can give adequate security to our farmers.
I will also build houses in the farmlands for our farmers. In education, I intend to revamp the vocational and technical education.”
