President Bola Tinubu has asked the police to bring the situation in Rivers State under control.

He specifically ordered the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to provide security to all government officials in the state.

Egbetokun, had earlier ordered the immediate withdrawal of Police personnel from the 23 Rivers State LG secretariats after over three months of deployment

However, the president in a statement on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said government facilities built with public funds must be safeguarded from vandalism.

“President called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders and their supporters in Rivers State to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law.

“In response to recent tensions following last Saturday’s local government council election, the President expressed deep concern over reports of arson and explosions in the state.

“He urged all political actors to de-escalate the situation and discourage their supporters from engaging in violence or destructive actions,” the statement said.

THE PLAINTRUTH had reported that Rivers State has been in the news for several months, with heightened tensions in recent weeks leading up to the local government elections.

Fubara became the governor of Rivers state with the support of the FCT minister.

A few months after his swearing-in, Fubara’s relationship with Wike started going sour.

Fubara, a sitting governor seems to be resisting Wike from taking over the leadership of the state from him.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, the Minister and his successor have refused to shield their sword.

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State on had called on President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency with a view to solving the political crisis.
