Governor of Zamfara state, Dauda Lawal, has accused his predecessor, Bello Matawalle of sponsoring terrorism.

Matawalle is the current Minister of State for Defence under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Matawalle is alleged to have procured vehicles for bandit leaders, including a notorious kingpin, Bello Turji, and others while serving as Zamfara State Governor.

Lawal, who disclosed this on TVC, a national television station, Wednesday, urged the minister to resign.

He alleged that the former governor kept terrorists at the government house, and ransom was paid to terrorists through the government

“If I were him (Matawalle), I would resign and face all the allegations against me because, from all the information we are getting, my predecessor was fully involved in some of this banditry”, said Lawal.

This is not the first time Matawalle’s name would be mentioned as one of the sponsors of terrorism. In January 2022 as state governor under the All Progressives Congress, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party called for Matawalle’s resignation over alleged banditry sponsorship.
