General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the military leader of the Republic of Niger says his men will do everything possible on their part to resist any invader who plans to force him to hand over power to the civilian government.
Tchiani specifically warned those who plan to attack the country to think twice.
Speaking after meeting with a delegation of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) led by the former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), the army General said he intends to hand over power to the civilian government within the next three years.
He stated this in a televised broadcast on Saturday night.
General Tchiani said the military junta would form a committee to study and write the new constitution for the country within a month.
He said,” Niger does not want to go to war with any country, but we will defend ourselves if the need arises.
“We are still open to negotiation, we are ready to do our best for the interest of our citizens.”
Meanwhile, ECOWAS is yet to react to the speech of the military leader.
